What You Should Know About Height Safety Equipment Inspections

Blog

If your business involves working at heights, then you might have harnesses and other types of height safety equipment on hand for your employees to use. You might have done your research to make sure that you purchased good-quality and approved height safety equipment, so you might not think that you have to worry about any problems. However, height safety equipment can wear out over time from use, and the equipment might not provide adequate protection anymore if this happens. Because of this, height safety equipment inspections are important.

They Should Be Performed In-House Regularly

For one thing, if you and your employees aren't regularly performing inspections of your height safety equipment, then you are making a mistake that could be putting your employees at risk. For example, each day before a shift starts, your workers should know to carefully check over their harnesses and any other safety equipment that they will be using during work. Make sure that you let your employees know that they can and should let a supervisor know if they notice that there is anything amiss about their safety equipment. You may even want to consider training your employees so that they know how to perform a thorough inspection on the various types of height safety equipment that might be in use in your business.

They Should Sometimes Be Done By Professional Inspectors

Since your employees might perform regular inspections on the height safety equipment that they work with, you might not really think it's necessary to have professional inspections done by certified inspectors. However, there are actually two reasons why these inspections are necessary. For one thing, these professionals are properly trained to perform these inspections, so you can feel confident in knowing that they should be able to catch any problems that your employees might not have seen when looking over the equipment.

Secondly, you may be required by law to have these inspections done at certain intervals. To help ensure that your business does not face any types of fines or other issues for not having these inspections done, you should not only make sure that you keep up with these inspections, but you should also make sure that the inspections are done by a certified inspector. Plus, you should hold on to any paperwork that you receive that proves that you did, in fact, have inspections done on your height safety equipment in accordance with the regulations.
