Forklift Rental Charges

Blog

Forklift hire is a suitable solution for contractors, heavy haulage companies, warehouse managers, and DIY enthusiasts who need the equipment for a short period. In a rush to hire a forklift, most people often make costly mistakes. Nevertheless, this should not happen if you read these forklift rental tips.

Determine the Required Forklift

Hiring the wrong forklift will only make your project expensive. Therefore, talk with your site manager to determine what needs to be lifted, the maximum lift, and working conditions. For instance, warehouses could consider order pickers since they can easily drive through narrow isles. On the other hand, heavy haulage companies could opt for industrial forklifts to lift massive loads. Conversely, rough terrain forklifts suit contractors working in rigid conditions. Each type of forklift has its specified use. Therefore, conduct thorough assessments to establish which forklift fits your operation.

Go For Recent Models

Once most people find a suitable forklift, they do not bother about its particulars since they presume that all models are similar. However, this is never the case. Consider newer forklift models since they are easier to use and come with advanced controls and safety features. For instance, a system of active stability (SAS) adjusts the forklift's stability if its assessments predict that the forklift could destabilise. This proactive system can help prevent fatal accidents. On the other hand, active mast function control (AMS) slows down the mast if it is about to tilt. Modern forklifts could also have comfort features such as seats with multiple adjustments. Besides, they could have an AC system to keep you warm during cold days.

Examine the Rental Conditions

The company's rental conditions should be a priority when hiring the equipment. Look out for the following:

  • Are there restrictions on how you can use the forklift? For example, the company could prohibit you from moving the equipment to a secondary location.
  • What services does the company offer clients? It could be insurance, transport, operators, or maintenance. Regardless, go for companies that can customise the rental package to suit your needs.
  • What are the forklift's rental charges? Besides the standard fee, check whether the company adjusts its pricing during weekends or whether you will incur rental fees when the equipment is idle.
  • What is the liability policy? Check whether you are liable for forklift damages, repairs, or security. Devise intelligent strategies to counter these policies. For instance, you could ask the company to provide an operator to ensure you are not liable for repairs.

When renting a forklift, determine the required equipment, go for newer models, and assess the rental conditions.
